Southern cassowaries are important to rainforest ecology because many large-fruited plants rely on animals to move their seeds.

Rainforest seed disperser

The southern cassowary is one of northern Queensland’s most recognisable rainforest animals. It eats a wide range of rainforest fruits and helps disperse seeds across the Wet Tropics.

Cassowaries need large areas of connected habitat and safe movement corridors between forest patches.
