General Information

Data Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time and with less pain by teaching them to efficiently use computational resources and automate tasks as well. This workshop is designed for those who have PRIOR EXPERIENCE with the UNIX shell. The primary focus of this workshop will be in strengthening UNIX shell skills, connecting to remote compute resources, and automating their Genomic analyses with UNIX shell scripting workflows.

Who: The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.

Where: Douglas Campus, The Science Place, Room 142-023. Get directions with OpenStreetMap or Google Maps.

When: October 25th & 26th 2017. Add to your Google Calendar.

Costs: $50 for all students and staff.

Benefits: Attendees will learn the basics of three powerful analytical tools & receive professional development training hours towards their course completion.

Meals: Attendees will be provided with morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.

Requirements: Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed (listed below). They are also required to abide by Data Carpentry's Code of Conduct.

To participate in a Data Carpentry workshop, you will need access to the software described below. In addition, you will need an up-to-date web browser.
